Glamorous guide to Lake Como
After seeing the charming city of Lecco and the exquisite Villa Carlotta and, of course, after a good night sleep in the silence that conquers the area we woke up with plenty of energy. The sun was shining while we were having breakfast outside thinking about how beautiful it must be to wake up everyday in this Paradise.
But no more daydreaming and let’s get back to exploring other cute little villages on the shores of Lake Como.
On our way to the ferry we strolled along the lake, enjoyed the view and took some photos in Teresio Olivelli municipal park in Tremezzo.
The ferry is the easiest way of get to various places there and it offers a spectacular view over the colorful villages having as background the high mountains.
Bellagio – the pearl of Lake Como, provides the perfect place to soak up the lake’s famous panorama. The village is characterized by century-old buildings, stone lanes and picturesque cobbled stairways filled with shops showcasing the finest Italian wares. Along the banks of the promontory of this small but enchanting village are many old patrician houses, each surrounded by parks and gardens of trees.
A must see in Bellagio is Villa Melzi – introduced by its English style garden which develops harmoniously along the lake’s banks, the last offshoot in the hill picture of the peninsula.
Varenna – the perfect place for those who wish to relax, take romantic walks and be inspired by its beauty. This jewel is a fishing village which dates from the eleventh century and has kept its noble and characteristic flair. Walking through its colorful alleys you can enjoy unique landscapes and take a glimpse of some luxurious yet simple villas around the lake.
We decided to visit Villa Monastero in Varenna – an eclectic villa built in the Nordic style surrounded by a garden enriched with Mediterranean and tropical plants. Getting lost in the garden, lulled by the sun and small waves of the lake, it is an experience that you must try, it is very special. The garden is thin and long almost 2 km, really a green corner stretching from Varenna to Fiumelatte. It is not a normal garden, here you can in fact see many native and exotic tree species in a mixture that thrives thanks to the mild climate of the Lake.
When you have fun time passes by really quick so in a matter of “seconds” it was almost sunset.
We had the most spectacular time here and in the end this destination won the first place in our personal travelling top. I am sure that every Italian corner is simply beautiful, even the most simple one, but after seeing almost the entire continental Italy (including Amalfi Coast, Cinque Terre, Tuscany and Puglia) I wish I could settle here at least during spring. I sincerely think that Italy can’t get more beautiful then this.
Remembering the great memories we made there, I can say that few places are as romantic as Lake Como, and even fewer resorts as lovely as Bellagio. Truly a dolce far niente kind of destination.
My story about the beauty of Lake Como and the places we’ve seen during our Italian honeymoon is not over yet so don’t forget to check out the blog in the upcoming days.
Sweet dreams, loved ones!
